Job Description

The Ruhlin Company is seeking to hire a part time (20 hours per week) Accounting Clerk. The individual hired for this position will be assigned to a construction project in Kent, Ohio.

Pay range: $18-$20/hour

Job Title: Account Clerk II
Department/Division: Building Division (Kent State University)
Reports to: Account Clerk Supervisor (or other Owner Representative)
FLSA status: Hourly (Part Time) 20 hours/week

Position Summary: Analyzes and processes a variety of accounting documents according to general guidelines and procedures; identifies and actively participates in the resolution of problems

Position Responsibilities:
Analyzes and processes accounts and financial documents (e.g. student loan applications, payroll forms, vouchers, student accounts, department accounts, etc.) according to general guidelines and procedures; verifies accuracy and validity of accounting documents; determines appropriate actions based on review of several pieces of information and application of general guidelines
Identifies and exercises independent judgment in resolving problems; accesses information from a variety of sources (e.g. paper or computerized files, other departments, financial and government agencies, etc.) to determine appropriate action
Responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and financial and government agencies concerning department or student accounts; provides general information to authorized parties; explains University and departmental policies and procedures
Maintains and monitors department budget; completes and processes various financial documents; records expenditures; monitors spending; researches and reconciles discrepancies; assists in budget and cost projecting; may assist in developing accounting systems and procedures
Prepares and compiles material for financial, statistical reports; generates statistics
Prepares documents and/or enters financial data into computer spreadsheet, journal or ledger; revises data as necessary
Orders supplies and equipment; contacts vendors, suppliers and service representatives to resolve problems with price, shipment, etc.
May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees
Performs related duties as required

Essential Skills and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent to include course work in bookkeeping
Spreadsheet software packages
Office practices and procedures
Standard procedures for alphanumeric filing
The operation of adding machine or calculator
Typing (i.e. 35 net words per minute)
Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with university personnel and public (e.g. to answer routine questions, to explain policies and procedures, and resolve problems)
Locate and correct bookkeeping/accounting errors
Analyze several pieces of information and draw valid conclusions
Perform basic mathematics (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages)
Apply policies and procedures
Classify information according to established methods and to maintain accurate records
Read, write, and accurately follow oral and written instructions
Operate a computer for data entry/retrieval
