ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Assistant Therapeutic Classroom Teacher (ATCT) partners with a Lead Therapeutic Classroom Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities to meet the individual needs of the children between the ages of 1 month to 5 years enrolled in this program.

Every role at Childhaven makes an impact! Assistant Therapeutic Classroom Teacher responsibilities include:

  • Interacts with children to foster the development of attachment, positive self-esteem, self-confidence, and communication skills;
  • Models consistent classroom and van behaviors which promote the development of positive self-image within their classrooms by setting age appropriate limits regarding children s behaviors. Strategies may include redirecting inappropriate behaviors, building positive reinforcements, building on positive choices and encouraging the child s development of conflict resolution and problem-solving skills;
  • Completes daily physical/emotional checklist, Childhaven Client Profiles (CCP), flow notes, van observation forms, and incident / accident reports in a timely manner;
  • Interacts with parents/caregivers in a positive, supportive manner and makes referrals to the Child and Family Therapist (CFT) when appropriate;
  • Models appropriate child development techniques for parents/caregivers;
  • Drives or assist on van routes;
  • Participates in staff meetings, case reviews, and other meetings;
  • Participates in Childhaven s in-service trainings, attends related conferences, courses, or seminars, and reads job related journals and periodicals as required for the position and/or requested by your supervisor;
  • Complies with the agency policy and procedure regarding the identification and reporting of suspected child abuse;
  • Complies with all Childhaven policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

Will believe in meeting the needs of children and families through strengths-based collaboration that improves their lives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • AA degree in a related field (human services, early childhood, or education)
  • Five years of related experience, including identification, reporting, and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect preferred.
  • Valid Washington state driver s license
  • Verifiable safe driving record with absence of DUI/DWI
  • Must pass internal Childhaven background check requirement and drug test

Desired Qualifications

  • Current certifications including:
    • First aid
    • Child/infant CPR
    • HIV and blood borne pathogens
  • Current cleared portable background check through State of Washington Department of Early Learning
  • MERIT identification number
