Smith-Boughan, Inc., a dynamic leading edge mechanical contractor in West Central Ohio is seeking a motivated, high energy and detail oriented individual to become our next BAS Applications Engineer.

The qualified person selected to join the Smith-Boughan team will be responsible for the design and engineering of Alerton® building automation systems (BAS), system integration and direct digital controls.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assist Energy Services/BAS Sales Engineer with the conceptual designs and applications as required.

Perform engineering of sold projects based on the conceptual design and estimate while adhering to the project specifications and requirements, along with company established templates and procedures including, but not limited to the following:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate sequence of operations.
  • Select DDC software, front end equipment (PC, printer, etc.) and controllers.
  • Size/select control dampers and actuators and generate schedules.
  • Size/select control valves and actuators and generate schedules.
  • Select all other required DDC instrumentation.
  • Generate complete bill of materials.
  • Determine system network requirements.
  • Identify and apply system integration solutions.
  • Generate complete set of control drawings.
  • Prepare control interface panel (CIP) layouts for panel fabrication.
  • Programming of TREND® building automation systems in accordance with established sequence of operations.
  • Generate BAS system front-end graphics per project requirements.

Identify questionable control, mechanical, or electrical applications that warrant RFI's to the project engineer for clarification.

Prepare control submittal packages as determined by the project engineer for review and approval.

Assist in resolving or answering issues or questions during system installation.

Conduct "commissioning turn-over" meetings with assigned BAS Technician to review the system programming prior to mobilizing to the site to commission the system installation.

Assist BAS Technician as required during system commissioning.

Assist with installation and configuration of front-end equipment and software as required.

Prepare as-built project documentation including control drawings, schedules and sequences.

Owner training of system software and front-end operation as required.

Provide technical support to internal and external clients.

Create and continually maintain engineering templates and libraries.

Stay current with industry technology and product advancements by seeking out training opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the department manager.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

Education and experience requirements include: 4 year HVAC or Electronics degree or equivalent, plus 5 years field experience in the HVAC/Controls Industry. Must possess a demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, control systems, and system integration applications. Proficiency in various types of controls including: electric, electronic, pneumatic, DDC systems and system integration is essential. Must possess a demonstrated knowledge of system networking and IT applications as well as knowledge and ability to utilize ACAD drawing software. Excellent communication and analytical skills are required. Must have Tridium Niagra AX Certification.
