Job Description

GEI Consultants is seeking multiple ecological restoration field technicians in our Michigan offices to implement project work in the ecological consulting and restoration management fields. This position requires an introductory level of skill and experience. Projects will involve field labor, technical work, and/or supervision of field crews.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supervise field crew of 2-6 team members
  • Assist with the construction and implementation of ecological restoration projects including but not limited to—native tree and shrub planting, seeding, erosion control measures, etc.
  • Assist with installation of stream bank stabilization projects including bioengineering techniques, coir logs, soil lifts, brush bundles, erosion control blanket, etc.
  • Herbicide application to invasive species, knowledge of invasive plant species, and treatment methods
  • Native plant identification and knowledge of native plant communities
  • Drive and operation of trucks with trailers, ATVs/UTVs tractors w/ attachments, skid steers, chainsaws, brushcutters, and small engines/pumps
  • Technicians may be required to spend up to 1-4 nights per week out of town working at remote locations.
  • A typical work day consists of an 8-12 hour day with a 30-minute lunch, two ten-minute breaks, and includes irregular hours (30-55 hours per week) and irregular starting and quitting times, in accordance with the requirements of the assigned job.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Fisheries, Forestry) - or equivalent experience
  • Standard First Aid, CPR, Red Card, Pesticide Applicator's License are preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License. May also be required to complete commercial driving requirements at the 10,000-26,000 lb. classification.
  • Technicians will be required to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License if state or local regulations require this for herbicide application.

Desired Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of ecological restoration related work experience and experience with herbicide application a plus
  • GPS/ArcPad experience is a plus
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team oriented work environment
  • Standard First Aid, CPR, Red Card, and Pesticide Applicator's License are not required but preferred
  • Competitive pay $14 to $20 per hour
  • Please note that selected candidates will be required to pass drug, background and reference screenings
