IBI Group is searching for an Intermediate to Senior Civil Engineer to join our Kingston office. This is an exciting opportunity for someone seeking to take the next step in their career and an opportunity to take on more of a leadership role in our engineering practice.  In this position you will be part of a great and close-knit team that provides professional engineering and planning services to municipal and private sector clients in the Kingston and surrounding areas.  Reporting to the Office Lead, the successful incumbent will become accountable for the operational results of the office engineering team, including financial performance, professional/technical excellence, staff motivation and development, and client satisfaction. The individual will work with the Office Lead and the practice leads in developing the office’s professional practice in accordance with the Region’s business plan and objectives.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for ensuring deliverables are met, managing project budgets, including invoicing, and maintaining overall client satisfaction
  • Undertake creation of and provide guidance in the preparation of proposals for both public and private sector clients, including providing support to other project teams in inter-office and/or multi-disciplinary projects
  • Establish, maintain and enhance positive client and vendor relationships; spearhead the marketing activities and reviewing all proposals and contracts to ensure consistency with the Region and sector’s approved business plan and adherence to the firm’s corporate and professional standards
  • Manage a team of engineering staff in Kingston office, including completing semi-annual performance reviews with the Office Lead and ensuring that engineering staff development and motivation are given a high priority
  • Take part in preparing annual business plan and budget for office engineering practice
  • Actively contribute to the implementation of corporate policies and standards in the office and that the office complies with relevant laws
  • Prepare and submit development applications, often as part of a multi-disciplinary or multi-firm team working on behalf of our clients
  • Produce conceptual design, detailed design, related drawings and technical specifications for new road and road reconstruction projects, including related infrastructure.
  • Provide land development and site development engineering design, including grading, site servicing, stormwater management, surface improvements, utility coordination and related work
  • Provide related design support to other projects and disciplines, as may be required
  • Oversee and assist with contract administration as required 


Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8+ years of related experience with land development and municipal engineering projects.
  • University Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Full Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Designation required (Ontario)
  • Have industry contacts with an ability to maintain new and current client relationships as well as conduct new business development
  • Knowledge and experience in development approval processes, including experience working with approval authorities at all levels
  • Field experience in the area of municipal engineering construction as a resident engineer or field inspector is considered an asset
  • Experience with traffic engineering, including preparation of traffic impact studies, long combination vehicle (LCV) studies and parking studies, considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office, Adobe, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D (Microstation experience an asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Analytical thinker, creative problem solver, able to think outside the box
