Design Engineer - Plymouth

The Design Engineer is responsible for designing photo tools and hard tools required to manufacture products to customer s specifications. This includes flat pattern development of sheet metal parts, print creations, customer interaction as required and companywide interaction to ensure the process flow. The engineer will also work with sales to accurately quote new product and give feedback of any issues.

  • Capable of converting a customer s print, cad file or model into a flat pattern form.
  • Lay out of flat pattern into standard templates (carrier and photo tools).
  • Design forming tools and/or fixturing capable of meeting customers print requirements and TE manufacturing requirements.
  • Define mfg. process steps and provide planning with the necessary information to release product to the mfg. floor.
  • Work with customers to design custom and standard part designs.
  • Must be able to convey designs both verbally and on prints.
  • Designs must be made so that the tools are safe to operate, ergonomic, and easily to operate.
  • Work closely with Sales, Management, Manufacturing and Responsible Engineers to confirm requirements, develop process, address capability issues, and troubleshoot issues that arise in order to meet customer expectations for quality parts and services.

Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of Solidworks or similar 3d software
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad or similar 2d design software
  • Working knowledge of standard PC programs (Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Associates or degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent job related experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with similar mechanical mfg. processes.
