Job Description

General Position Summary:

Position is responsible for effectively managing inspection resources, ensuring that customer quality and regulatory requirements are met for products produced.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Management of receiving, in-process and final inspections in support of customer requirements. Ensuring adequate resources are available to support engineering projects and production requirements.
  • Perform investigations for customer complaints, including the gathering of data for lot trace, and retrieval of production / inspection forms for product.
  • Communicate company metric performance on a weekly basis.
  • Promotes continuous improvement through thorough understanding of the work and living the philosophy by daily communication within value stream areas, shifts, logistics, engineering support, and production management on needs, priorities, and issues.
  • Respect for People in daily interactions – daily adherence to company safety requirements; perform or delegate training on product introductions or changes. Adhere to company values, rules, regulations, and accreditations to achieve company goals. Set an expectation of improvement and learning in the operation. Weekly time approval of personnel.
  • Lead regular communications within functional area pertaining to company and value stream performance, with the goals of improving throughput and reducing waste and non-value added activity. Stop to fix problems. Go and see to thoroughly understand the situation. Coach, mentor and develop people by investigating root cause for any non-conformances and empower team to prevent recurrence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CMM s, GD&T, blue prints, conventional measurement tools, load testing, calibration systems, quality and engineering requirements as communicated from various customers. Applies skills in these areas to aid in overall departmental improvements.
  • Monitor material and product test results in conjunction with the Compliance and provide support to that department.
  • Perform Internal Audits and Supplier Audits.
  • Support product quoting and bid process by providing data or estimates of inspection activities.
  • Support production readiness review and transfer of process development into production.

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining perspective
  • Proficiency in using statistics
  • Experience in composites (preferred)
  • Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with upper management, peers and direct reports.
  • Timely and effective performance management, provides regular feedback to direct reports
  • Direct problem solving, searches for root cause and addresses issues.
  • Addresses conflict directly and works to resolve differences proactively.

Education and/or Experience:

10 years of experience in a quality function with decision making responsibilities in an aerospace production environment

Experience working with manufacturing based technology, processes and principles.

Advanced composites manufacturing experience required

Requires knowledge of company policies, operations management and other applicable procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct supervision of department leads and indirect management of quality department employees, management of corrective and preventative action systems.

Job Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate requiring hearing protections in certain areas. PPE is provided by AIM based on the employee s position and exposure.
